Significant Enhancements and Integration Aspects in SAP Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) and SAP Transportation Management (TM)
With the release of SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition 2025 Feature Pack Stack 01 (FPS01) in February 2026, SAP delivers a substantial set of enhancements across its core Warehouse Management and Transportation Management solutions. As a specialized consultancy for SAP Supply Chain Execution, we have analyzed the key innovations and summarized what matters most in practice for enterprise supply chains.
Artificial Intelligence: Joule in the Warehouse and Transport Layers
One of the clearest themes in SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition 2025 FPS01 is the continued embedding of Joule, SAP’s AI assistant, into operational logistics processes.
On the EWM side, Joule gains the ability to interact directly with the outbound process. Warehouse staff and dispatchers can query outbound delivery statuses, identify bottlenecks, and trigger targeted actions using natural language – no deep system knowledge required. This directly reduces training overhead for new employees.
In parallel, the AI-assisted predictive labor demand planning (pLDP) capability is further enriched: FPS1 now extends support to RF staging in the outbound process and introduces API functions for picking. Planning is based on aggregated historical data and integrates directly into the Warehouse KPI Fiori app as KPI cards – giving warehouse managers real-time transparency over current and future workload.
On the TM side, 2025 FPS01 delivers AI-assisted goods receipt analysis Version 3, now extended to cover Bordero documents including shipping notes and delivery documents. Inconsistent or erroneous documents are automatically categorized, and freight orders are created based on the extracted information – significantly reducing manual entry effort.
Advanced Shipping and Receiving: Greater Flexibility in the Integrated Shipping Process
Another central focus area of SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition 2025 FPS01 is the continued expansion of the Advanced Shipping and Receiving (ASR) process, deepening the tight integration between EWM and TM. Here are the key enhancements:
- Ad hoc Loading: Handling units (HUs) are assigned to a freight order directly at the point of loading – without prior planning or consolidation steps in TM. This eliminates pre-planning requirements and is particularly valuable in scenarios with short-notice changes or warehouse-driven logistics decisions.
- Outbound without Loading: Smaller warehouse locations no longer need to manually set the loading status. Once EWM completes pick, pack, and staging, the information is automatically passed to the freight order – significantly simplifying the shipping process.
- Harmonized Global Trade Services (GTS) Integration: Customs invoices are only triggered once all warehouse information – delivery quantities, handling units, serial numbers – has been fully finalized. In international shipping contexts, this is a critical process safeguard.
- Warehouse-Driven Outbound Delivery Order Split: Warehouse staff can flexibly split Outbound Delivery Orders (ODOs) to separate packed or non-picked items before handover to the shipping process. Three split variants are supported: item split, HU split, and split of remaining positions.
Suite Integration and Clean Core: New Process Connections
SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition 2025 FPS01 also delivers meaningful enhancements in suite integration and emphasizes clean core extensibility:
- Quality Management during Outbound Processes: S/4HANA 2025 FPS01 integrates quality management into outbound warehouse processes, ensuring required product checks are completed before goods leave the warehouse. The system blocks goods issue posting if quality inspections are incomplete, preventing shipment for deliveries with open inspection lots.
- Quantity Correction in Advanced Returns Management (ARM): A new logistical follow-up action enables accurate correction of received quantities after inspection when customer returns are incomplete or partially unrecoverable. It is supported by automated EWM processing, including outbound delivery creation, warehouse task execution, staging, and goods issue posting to ensure correct stock updates.
- Next Generation Just-In-Time (nJIT) Supply to Customer: Just-in-Time (JIT) Supply-to-Customer (S2C) involves receiving customer JIT calls that specify when and where materials must be delivered, triggering shipping if stock is available and ending with goods issue and settlement. With the 2025 FPS01 release, embedded EWM now supports end-to-end Just-In-Sequence (JIS) processing, including automated outbound delivery creation, EWM order generation, and streamlined picking and staging through HU-based task automation.
- Multi-Stage Advanced Intercompany Sales and Stock Transfer in Value Chain Analysis (VCA): With the new multistage advanced intercompany sales (AIC) and stock transfer, S/4HANA 2025 FPS01 enables complex, multi‑company supply chains by automating sales, purchase, and logistics documents across selling, intermediate, and delivering entities, coordinated through a financial chain and Value Chain Monitor. These functionalities overcome the limitations of classic and single‑stage intercompany processes by supporting tax, revenue sharing, and valuated stock in transit across multiple affiliates in a single, orchestrated process.
- Collective Settlement for Lean Service Procurement in TM: The S/4HANA 2025 FPS01 release enables collective settlement for Lean Service Procurement by allowing multiple freight documents to be grouped into a single settlement, supported by enhanced Fiori apps that allows users to post documents individually, collectively, or based on profile rules. The new release also improves error handling, change management, invoice verification, and transparency by showing linked freight documents, supporting delta postings, enforcing restrictions on modified charges, and structuring cost allocation so each line corresponds clearly to the underlying freight document.
- Enhancements in EWM with Clean Core Extensibility: The Clean Core Extensibility strategy continues to drive modernization and simplification in SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition. The 2025 FPS01 release advances this by enhancing the ODATA-service Warehouse Order and Task (A2X) API with new lock/unlock actions to support lean warehouse automation. The new release also empowers warehouse operators to enrich the stock list during warehouse task creation by adding custom fields through a dedicated BAdI, improving flexibility across key warehouse task apps.

SAP’s roadmaps for both EWM and TM clearly show a strong commitment to advancing their current strategic direction, with several key innovations planned for upcoming releases:
