SEVERIN × SAP S/4HANA TM Advanced: The Next Milestone in Transportation Logistics – Supported by audaxes
We are delighted to congratulate SEVERIN on the successful go-live of SAP Transportation Management (TM) Advanced. Following the successful implementation of SAP S/4HANA with manual transportation planning based on TM Basic, SEVERIN has now taken the next step: its entire outbound transportation process is live on SAP TM, fully integrated with SAP Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) and its existing sales processes. This milestone further strengthens the integration of SEVERIN’s logistics processes and lays the foundation for more efficient, transparent, and digitally supported transportation management.
For more than 130 years, SEVERIN has stood for quality home appliances. From its headquarters in Sundern, Germany, the company serves specialist retailers, its own online shop, international marketplaces, and export markets. This creates a highly diverse shipping profile – ranging from individual shipments to end customers to full truckloads transported across Europe. Managing this diversity makes transportation logistics a demanding discipline: each sales channel comes with its own requirements, and the system needs to automatically determine the right course of action for each scenario.
What We Implemented Together
The implementation covered the end-to-end outbound shipping process – from the customer order item and the creation of freight units and freight orders through to delivery and goods issue in the warehouse.
The solution supports full and partial truckloads for both domestic and European transportation, groupage shipments, parcel and express services for B2B and B2C business, direct transportation, and customer pickups.
The scope also includes order-based integration with sales processes, fully automated transportation planning, rule-based carrier selection using SAP condition techniques, and a customer-specific enhancement of the Package Builder – including support for mixed pallets. Carrier notification, including shipping documents and freight waybills, is automated as well.
On the inbound side, container deliveries have been integrated with inbound delivery processing and goods receipt in SAP EWM.
The Benefits for SEVERIN
With SAP TM Advanced, SEVERIN gains end-to-end visibility across its transportation processes – from order creation through to handover to the carrier, all within a single system and based on a common data foundation.
Automated planning consolidates shipments wherever economically viable, selects the appropriate carrier based on defined rules, and makes more effective use of available transportation capacity. Manual assignments, carrier queries, and media breaks in document creation are largely eliminated.
The close integration of SAP TM, SAP EWM, and sales processes ensures that transportation planning, warehouse execution, and goods issue work together seamlessly. At the same time, the implementation establishes a strong foundation for further process improvements, including EDI integration with carriers and freight settlement in SAP TM.
A Project Driven by Collaboration
Over several months, business teams, IT, and consulting worked together in a consistent weekly rhythm: ongoing internal testing was complemented by a joint test session at the end of each week. This approach proved more effective than relying on a single, consolidated testing phase at the end of the project. Issues were identified and resolved within the same week in which they arose.
We have carried this collaborative approach into the hypercare phase as well, with a shared issue list, daily coordination meetings, and clear responsibilities across all parties.
Our special thanks go to the entire SEVERIN project team for their open, reliable, and consistently solution-oriented collaboration. We look forward to continuing to support SEVERIN in its productive operations and to jointly taking the next steps in expanding and optimizing the solution.
